I'm getting out of this dark cold wasteland

I love Utah, but man I hate January and February. They are the worst months with little sunshine, and beatings increase. So it's time to go to sunny California. The girls can't wait to go to Disneyland. We're going to Universal on Monday, which is really to give me a chance to geek out. Then we'll be in Disney and California Adventure on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. I caved and agreed to let Mirinda and Priya where their princess dresses to the park. I really don't like it, but they're so excited to do it I can't say no. I think what bugs me about the whole princess thing is a lot of these kids look at it as an excuse to be brats, and call it being a princess or a diva. It drives me insane.
I've been doing a lot of research on food to eat there, cause that's what I do. When I travel I'm on Trip Advisor looking up the most highly rated restaurants in the area. I've also been on YouTube a lot looking at videos of people eating food, and I've realized that YouTube is like the Mos Eisley Cantina. It's just a wretched hive of scum and villainy. And most of these guys have no business reviewing food anywhere. They don't have any idea what they are talking about. One guy was reviewing the fish and chips at The Three Broomsticks, and talking about how good it was. He then went on to explain how he really knows his fish because he's had tuna. In a tuna fish sandwich. If I had him in the room I would have hit him in the head with a 2X4. I realize that's extreme, but I feel it would be justified. He then went on to say he didn't like swordfish, because swordfish was really important to the plot of Harry Potter.
We did take Mirinda for her 3rd birthday, so she's been there before, but she doesn't remember anything. Priya has never been there, and I'm so excited to see the two of them there. It's going to be a fantastic trip.
As an update on Priya, she's going to have hip surgery in a few months. Her club foot is starting to come back, and they think it's because she isn't walking on that foot correctly. She'll be in a body cast for 5 weeks. It's one of those things that you know you need to do, but you'd do anything to not have to do it. Priya will take it stoically as she always does. I think that kid has more patience with doctors than most adults have. But, it's going to be a long 5 weeks. Hopefully with the hip replacement she'll have an easier time walking, and the club foot won't come back. I didn't know that could happen.
So we're going to have fun now, and deal with the garbage later.
I'll give everyone an update on how the week went when we get back. I'm going to love seeing those girls reactions to everything.
My recommendation for this week? Go to Billy B's Hash House. Seriously if you haven't gone, get there. The donuts are amazing. Get the poutine and the deviled eggs. Just get there.

My new rule is if it sucks I'm not doing it

I haven't written in quite a while. I think I've been too caught up in the holidays, and honestly that's a good problem to have. We did have a really fantastic Christmas and New Year. The girls absolutely loved it. It took  Priya a little while to figure out what was going on Christmas morning, but after a few presents she got the hang of it and had the time of her life. It was so fun to see Mirinda and Priya together on Christmas morning. Mirinda is so terrified of Santa Clause coming into her room that she would not fall asleep until about midnight. Usually kids can't fall asleep cause they're excited. It made for a long night. But they both had a fantastic Christmas day. I just can't imagine what life would be like without those two.
The girls are now excited because we're going to Disneyland in about 3 weeks. I can't wait. I love to travel with them, because they make everything funny. They have a way of making the most mundane things fun. Priya has never been anywhere like this. Mirinda has been before, but she doesn't really remember it. We're going to Universal too, which means I can geek out at Harry Potter world, and last time we were in Disneyland Mirinda and I made our own light sabers, so Priya wants to make one of her own.
The brace that Priya has been wearing on her hand is starting to help. She's starting to be able to use her index finger more, which means less of her giving everyone the bird. Two positives in a row. She doesn't really like to wear it, but she tends to take things stoically for such a young kid.
With the new year, it was time for my usual this is the year I'm going to lose weight, but here's the issue. Every year I go crazy and just eat salad (which is so depressing) and say I'm going to wake up at 5 am to run every day. Two weeks later I'm not exercising and all and eating whatever I want. So this year my rule is if it sucks I'm not doing it. The idea behind it is to pick something realistic I can do that is a step in the right direction. Since the new year I have been on the elliptical for 30 minutes each week day. I use the gym at my work, there's a tv there, and I watch something while I run. That's something realistic I can do, and I plan to keep it up from now on. I've also started to drink more water, even though Coke Zero has water in it. I like vegetables, and I like to eat a lot of different kinds of foods, but I'm focusing on smaller portions, but not so small that it sucks. Refer back to the rule. The idea is that I'm not on a diet. I'm making a lifestyle change, because I've become ridiculously overweight, and I'm pretty tired of it.
I haven't had a recommendation in a while, but I have one this week. It's called Billy B's Hash House. It's on 700 West and about 7000 South, and it is really amazing. A lot of comfort food. I had the salmon hash, and it was good, but the poutine was absolutely amazing. They bring you a donut when you are seated. I say that knowing full well that I just wrote about getting healthier, but you still have to enjoy life or it sucks. Refer to the rule.
Thanks for reading, and I'm going to push to write more often in the next year.
