I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I spent a ton of time with my daughters so I was happy about that. I got off early on Wednesday and they wanted to go swimming. I took the to the South Jordan Rec center. There was no one there, and the water was 85 degrees. I was just thinking how awesome it was when the lifeguards started blowing the whistle and hustling everyone out of the pool. You guessed it, diarrhea in the pool. So we watch them trying to fish it out for about 15 minutes with the skimmer thing, and finally they came to everyone to explain what happened and said they have to get the vacuum out to get it all and it would be about an hour. Even if I stayed for an hour I'm not going back in that soup. I read a study that it actually takes the chlorine in the pool about 6 hours to kill the bacteria from something like that. The girls were understandably upset, but I took them to the mall and nickel cade. They got over it.
But seriously. If you know your kid is having those issues, keep them home. In this case it could have been that they didn't know the kid wasn't feeling well. I really hope that was the case and that it wasn't the entitlement feeling that is so freaking prevalent in our culture. It was annoying. On Friday I took the girls to the Herriman Rec Center. Water was warm and no one was there. Added bonus: no poop.
The girls enjoyed Thanksgiving. They ate a moderate amount which was impressive. Priya eats very little but likes to have things throughout the day. Mirinda has times that she likes to eat a lot and times she doesn't.
On Saturday we bought our Christmas tree. We got a live tree this year and I love that smell. I've started the quest to have them watch Christmas movies. We watched Home Alone and Home Alone 2 this last week. They loved it, but were very concerned about the bad guys. They were concerned that they were hurt and also concerned that at the end they turn into good guys. I told them there are bad people in the world, and the cartoons they're watching don't always give an accurate representation of that. Especially Sofia the First. They spent the first 3 seasons setting up villains, and now they're going back through those villains to show how they weren't really bad just misunderstood. Misunderstandings happen, but sometimes people are just bad for the sake of being bad.
That's something I really need to drive into Priya right now. She'll cuddle with anyone, even people she just met. It's sweet but she also has to learn some caution. We were at a high school musical last week. There was someone from the band that said hi to her. Priya grabbed her hand and took off. She was halfway up the auditorium and headed towards the doors before I caught up to her. That poor high school girl must have been terrified as she saw me coming after them. The first thing I told her is I wasn't mad at her but I needed to teach my daughter not to do things like that. I apologized to the high school girl after the show as well.
So that's what we're working on. Being kind and loving, but also being cautious.
The girls did sit on Santa's lap, which is a huge accomplishment for Mirinda. Last Christmas she was up until 2 AM because she was scared of Santa coming into her room. That's changed a lot. Maybe I'll get some sleep this year.
As always thanks for reading. Today I had to go to Cafe Rio and Dunford Donuts for work. If I go to Olive Garden as well my hellish trifecta of food will be complete. We'll see what the day brings.
Speaking of food we've got a new episode of Snooty and Slackjaw this week, so please listen!
