Rapunzel wasn't such a bad idea

I found out more about that momo thing. It started out as just a joke, but then the news decided to make it a story because it was probably a slow news day, and now people are purposely putting it into videos to get clicks. The solution? Don't freaking got to youtube. It's a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Don't let your kids on there either. And don't post the picture on my page Jake. You know who you are. Apparently they make masks out of the face in Japan. It's supposed to be a mother bird. If I was a bird, and that was my mom, I'd be leaping from the nest. While I was still in the egg.
We had a fantastic time in St George. Of course we brought the rain with us. It never rains in southern California or St. George, but it sure does when we are there. We had one good day of weather before the rain came. On Friday we drove to Vegas. I love Vegas for about a day. Not all aspects of Vegas, but I love the food. After a day I'm good though. I don't think the family we went with were prepared for all the food I wanted to eat. We ate at the Paris Buffet, which is a good cheaper (relatively) buffet. For lunch it's usually about $22 a person. For Vegas buffet that's pretty cheap, unless you want to go to Fremont Street, which you should never do. Fremont Street is the youtube of Vegas.
Walking down the Strip was interesting because I was pushing a wagon with four kids in it, and Bubba had a baby strapped to his chest, and Amy and Tiff were walking behind us. So I looked like I was dealing in human trafficking, Bubba looked like the guy from the Hangover, and we looked like we were married. If you're getting strange looks from people on the strip, you look pretty strange.
I've always talked about how boy crazy Mirinda is, but holy crap. Their oldest boy Charlie is a really cute kid, but the looks Mirinda was giving him I never want to see on her face again until her wedding day. She was obsessed with him. At one point they were sitting in the wagon together and Mirinda had her head on his shoulder. I had to keep reminding myself that they're kids, but suddenly the idea of Rapunzel doesn't sound like such a bad idea. At least Charlie is a good kid. He's not playing with razor blades or lighting cats on fire or anything like that. But seriously girl, calm down. We had a few different talks about how important it is to be OK with yourself before anything else. I don't think she understood what I was saying, but my plan is to have that talk with her every day from now until the time she turns 16. Then we'll move to that talk twice a day. Or the tall tower and shave her bald. We'll see how it goes.
We did all the things you do with kids in Vegas. Went to the M&M store, Coke store and Hershey's store. We did the soda from around the world thing at the Coke store, which I recommend. I don't recommend it because it's good. Some are good, but some of the drinks have to be from communist countries. I think only communists could enjoy some of those drinks. I'm not sure if Karl Marx ever wrote about what kind of soda to drink. I'll have to wikipedia that bad boy.
On Saturday we went to Veyo. If you've never been there it's a little town about 20 miles north of St George. There's a little pie shop in Veyo that's been there for 30 years, and it is amazing. All of their pies are delicious. They also make an incredible pot pie that I highly recommend. It's worth the trip if you're ever in St George. We also had Croshaw's pies in St George, which were also excellent. I'm not kidding about traveling and food. The trick is to use Trip Advisor. Go on Trip Advisor and search for the top restaurants in that area, and pick any one of the top five, and you're in for a great food experience. The only time it has failed me is in Salt Lake, where for a long time the number one was Bombay House. There are much better Indian places in Salt Lake than Bombay House. Now the number one is Takashi, which is pretty great.
Priya got her cast off yesterday, and she's pretty happy about it. She loves baths, loves anything to do with water. She got a water table playset for her birthday (it's in a couple weeks, but she saw the box when it was delivered and nothing would stop her from wanting it open. Not the cold, not a militia, nothing. I'm a big guy and I was scared not to let her open it). We got it set up, but then she was upset she couldn't play with it until her cast came off. She'll have about a month and a half of freedom before the surgery. Poor kid.
Alright for my recommendation this week, do a search for a local bakery. No, not Kneaders or Paradise bakery. Those places are not good. I'm talking an actual local bakery. Do a search and you'll be surprised how many there are. Schmidt's is ok. Some of their things are really good, and some are really mediocre. Their danishes are not good. Go and try a bakery you've never tried before. Not Kneaders or Paradise.
Thanks for reading! Winter is throwing one last tantrum for the next week, but spring will come, and it will be glorious.

  1. I told my daughter she couldn't date until she's 40. I had to put my foot down...she has a date tonight.
